Recent events all over the world have brought up many changes in all spheres of life including education. It is high time we shared with you some results we get from our children who are learning English at home now.
The pupils regularly receive their homework by visiting our school google disc and upload it there. As teachers of English we correct their work leaving some relative comments.
To help our students to master listening comprehension tasks we record videos on our YouTube channels.

To sum it up, we would like all of you to learn English, do homework, speak English in the family, watch cartoons and films in English. And what is even more important – stay safe and healthy!
In September all the classes did a sort of revision of the material from last year, while in October we started learning new topics in terms of vocabulary, grammar and phonetics.
A new system has been introduced in English lessons this school year. On Monday together with the children we set our goals for the week, work on them during the week and evaluate our results at the end of the week in writing or/and in speaking. The kids do self-evaluation, sometimes peer evaluation and always get a teacher’s feedback. This allows us to see what progress we have made and the pupils are provided with so-called feed forward, which means a short summarized instruction – what to improve to ensure a further progress in learning English.
As teachers of English we are looking forward to getting feedbacks from you to know what we can improve in our professional activity.
Summer holidays have almost come to an end and on Monday we are happy to start a new school year with our children in Šeberov school.
Firstly, I would like to introduce a new member of our team, my colleague and tandem partner, Mrs Linda. She is an experienced English teacher – hardworking, creative, who has a professional attitude to work. During demonstrative lessons and meetings last year Mrs Linda fulfilled all the criteria/requirements set by school management and myself. So, Mrs Linda, welcome aboard!
This school year as well as the previous one we are going to teach our kids in two equal groups divided according to the alphabet for 5 months with the following exchange. Those are the groups of kids with relatively mixed levels. We have done it intentionally to enable the pupils to help each other and ask for it thus developing certain social skills during English lessons.
In all classes we are continuing using Kid’s Box series by Cambridge University Press as a main course in our lessons for the following reasons: this course gives a wonderful opportunity for all kids to master the English language from the basics up to a higher level in terms of vocabulary, phonetics, grammar and so on. It is a well developed textbook focused on communication with the most relevant topics for the kids. These books will also help us to prepare the children for the Cambridge exams.

Ve druhém pololetí bude pátá třída nadále pracovat ve dvou skupinách. Vymění se jenom učitelé. V rámci reflexe prvního pololetí jsme nabídli dětem možnost více rozvíjet jejich potenciál v AJ. Na základě jejich rozhodnutí budou každý čtvrtek a pátek pracovat s kurzem, který má větší obsah učiva. Tento kurz povede Evžen.
We are finishing this term with good results – our children worked hard both at school and at home and have made a significant progress in English.
The first and second graders are able to sing a few songs about animals, colours, numbers, pets, parts of body, food and many others. They can say simple sentences about their names, age, favourite things. The third graders also learnt 4 songs in English and can speak about their house, every day activities, places in the city. They know the difference between CAN and MUST. We learnt to form sentences with these modal verbs. The pupils in the fourth grade can describe pictures, what children are doing, they know sports, school subjects, illnesses, ordinal numbers. They are able to say in simple sentences about their activities in the past. Along with that, we as English teachers recommended that some children take an International Cambridge Exam (YLE Starters) in May, 2019. The students of the fifth grade are able to describe wild animals, pets and farm animals, ask questions, give short and full answers.
It helps us a lot when you, parents, speak to your children about the importance of English for their personal development now and professional in future.
